Don DeVoe has been a head basketball coach at Tennessee, Florida, Virginia Tech, Navy, and Wyoming. Through his career, he led three teams to the NCAA tournament, and posted a career record of 510-383(.571). At Virginia Tech, he led the Hokies to a NIT title as well as an NCAA tournament appearance in 1976. From 1978 to 1989, he coached at Tennessee. In eleven seasons in Knoxville, he compiled a 204-137 record. He led the Volunteers to its first ever Sweet Sixteen appearance in 1981, where they lost to number 1 seeded Virginia. In his final season, he led the Vols to a 19-11 record and an NCAA tournament appearance. He served as the head coach at Navy from 1992-2004. He led the Midshipmen to a 182-155 record with 5 Patriot League regular season titles, three Patriot League tournament titles, and 3 NCAA tournament appearances. He was named Patriot League Coach of the Year three times. He is currently a member of the NIT selection committee. He played basketball at Ohio State. He was a member of the 1962 team which lost to the University of Cincinnati Bearcats. He was a teammate of Bobby Knight; he coached under him at Army and has been a friend of his for greater than forty years. He and his wife Ana have two children. |
